Mobile platforms present unique accessibility challenges compared to web interfaces. Small screen sizes limit the amount of information that can be displayed, touch-based input requires precise motor control, and varied contexts of use—walking, bright sunlight, noisy environments—can amplify difficulties for users with disabilities.
However, mobile devices also offer opportunities. Built-in sensors and capabilities enable powerful accessibility features: cameras support text recognition and object identification, GPS enables navigation assistance, and haptic feedback provides non-visual confirmation of actions. Mobile devices are also inherently personal, allowing users to configure accessibility settings that follow them across applications.
Both Android and iOS provide accessibility features at the operating system level. Understanding these features and how they support people with disabilities helps developers design applications that work seamlessly with them.

Similar functionality exists on Android through Voice Access. This feature is particularly valuable for users with motor impairments who find touch gestures difficult or impossible.
